After I discovered I was pregnant, my boyfriend at the time revealed he had been seeing another woman who he’d also impregnated. He was not interested in supporting me or a baby. I was devastated. I had not intended on having a child so young or without a partner. I had recently finished grad school and had little savings. I couldn’t turn to my conservative family for support, so I had to borrow money for the abortion from a friend. I opted for a medical abortion, and did the procedure at home by myself. It was a painful experience, physically and emotionally, but I do not regret it. That was more than ten years ago, and I know I made the right decision.
