Advocates for Youth commends the Biden administration for taking essential legal action to protect the right to abortion access for all Texans, including low-income, LGBTQ+, and BIPOC young people who are directly impacted by the dangerous restrictions set forth in SB 8. The lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice to stop Texas’ near-total abortion ban is a positive step forward and we are hoping for some form of judicial relief. In the interim, many of those in need of crucial reproductive healthcare are still unable to obtain services, which serves as a strong reminder that federal legislation expanding and guaranteeing abortion access in every state is needed now more than ever.
