In 1974 I was having some physical problems that made it necessary for me to stop taking the pill. I began using other forms of birth control that failed when I became pregnant. I was not in a financial or physical position to have a child. Abortion had just become legal in New York. The clinic I went to was clean, efficient and the people there were kind and knowledgeable. I did the right thing for me at the time. That is what choice is all about. I have always been frank about having an abortion. Bringing these facts of life out in the open is the only way that any stigma around abortion will be a thing of the past.
