In 1952 my mother was 41 and had 5 children including 2 yr old twins and one kidney. She had been told she should not get pregnant again but she did. She spent much of her pregnancy in the hospital and was never told that she would have been eligible for an abortion to save her health. She delivered at 7 months and died the next day. I was the only child that stayed with our father. Two went to foster homes, three were adopted. The youngest, a preemie many months in the hospital, was adopted by a lawyer and wife. At 16 (1968) she was pregnant, married her boyfriend and had two sons. When her husband was killed in an accident she was judged incapable of caring even for herself. She was made a ward of the state and the boys adopted away. Lives destroyed and disrupted for want of safe abortion access.
