“HUD’s proposed rule allowing shelters to discriminate against transgender young people not only would cause grave harm, but is another moral outrage in a string of brutal attacks by this Administration on vulnerable young people. One in five transgender individuals have experienced homelessness.. LGBTQ youth face a 120 percent higher chance of homelessness. Transgender individuals already report extremely high rates of mistreatment at homeless shelters, including harassment, assault, and being kicked out due to their gender identity. Endorsing that treatment through government policy is unacceptable. Transgender youth people deserve safe and supportive spaces. Young people aren’t going to allow the Trump Administration to force trans people to live on the streets.”
