Statement on Historic Hyde Hearing in House

Today Advocates for Youth recognizes the House Appropriations subcommittee hearing on the dangers of the Hyde Amendment. We stand with our colleagues across the reproductive health, rights, and justice movement  in calling for an end to the discriminatory and oppressive Hyde Amendment. The Hyde Amendment is an unnecessary policy mechanism that creates barriers to abortion access by prohibiting the use of federal funds for abortion. These barriers most disparately impact communities already facing obstacles in accessing abortion care such as young people, especially young queer, trans, and nonbinary BIPOC.

The House’s long overdue hearing on the dangers of the Hyde amendment is a historic moment in the movement towards reproductive justice for all. We call on federal lawmakers to #BeBoldEndHyde by passing the EACH Woman Act and appropriations bills free from coverage bans on abortion. All people, including young people deserve the right to an abortion, free from unnecessary restrictions and political interference.
