I had an abortion when I was 23. I was living with my fiance and attending college – both of us working full time and barely making ends meet. My birth control failed me and my fiance and I decided that an abortion would be best. We couldn’t fathom raising a child when our finances were so tight and I was in the middle of my BA degree.

After the abortion, I was deeply RELIEVED. I had tremendous support from my mother and fiance – no one else has ever known, until now. My fiance is now my husband, 20 years strong in our relationship. I finished my BA, finished my masters, am a homeowner and small business owner and we have a beautiful daughter that we have the resources to raise the way we want (no daycare, extraordinary education, living on a farm, etc. NONE of this would have been possible had I elected to continue that pregnancy.

It was one of the best decisions I have ever made and I have never regretted it. My hope is that all women who want access to safe and legal abortion are allotted the same opportunity that I was. And I will continue to use my resources to make that happen.
