We are outraged at the Supreme Court’s endorsement of book bans and failure to protect young people’s access to books that reflect the diversity of the world around them. Attempts to censor LGBTQ+-inclusive materials under the guise of religious freedom are rooted in hate and blatant discrimination.

Public health research demonstrates that preventative HIV care is critical to protecting LGBTQ+ people and vulnerable communities. Raising health care costs would put countless lives at risk and exacerbate existing and inequitable barriers to HIV treatment, prevention, and care that disproportionately impact young people of color. Attempts to restrict access to PrEP are rooted in stigma and blatant discrimination– not science.

We are incredibly disappointed in today’s decision, and urge lawmakers to take action to protect Medicaid and reproductive health clinics in their states.

Title IX was always intended to establish equitable access to school spaces and educational opportunities for all students. Lately, political extremists have mischaracterized and weaponized the legacy of Title IX against transgender young people, wielding a piece of legislation meant to create safe and supportive schools against the very students who need its protection the most. 

It should be common sense: every young person must have access to health care that allows them to thrive and grow up happy and healthy. Today, the Supreme Court has chosen to endanger the lives of transgender young people by ignoring decades of medical research in support of gender-affirming care.

All young people deserve to feel safe in public spaces, and to access the health care, education, and resources they need without threat of deportation.  Yet this Administration sends plainclothes, masked ICE agents for violent attacks on immigrants at work, at school, at health care centers, and during immigration proceedings.
