Today, as HIV programs face funding cuts and partisan attacks, Advocates for Youth honors National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day (NYHAAD) and the young people advocating for HIV prevention, treatment, and care nationwide. 

Title X providers, including many Planned Parenthood affiliates, play a critical role in ensuring young people and low-income communities have access to medical treatment and preventive care. Eliminating these services is cruel, dangerous, and will disproportionately impact young people of color who already face higher barriers to health care.

Campus protests are at the heart of movements for peace and justice, and young people must be able to organize for the causes they believe in without jeopardizing their physical safety or immigration status.

With this attack on federal HIV programs, the Trump Administration puts countless lives at risk and exacerbates existing and inequitable barriers to HIV treatment, prevention, and care.

With this attempt to gut the Department of Education by laying off its workforce, the Trump Administration furthers its campaign against educators and young people nationwide. 
The U.S. Department of Education exists for a reason: to build toward a future where every student, in every state, has full access to an education that allows them to thrive. That future is not attainable without classroom materials that include diverse perspectives and acknowledge the role race and gender play in shaping identity, society, and health outcomes. Every young person should feel represented in the classroom. 

President Trump’s willingness to detain protesters on the basis of ideology is a threat to democracy. By illegally arresting Mahmoud Khalil, the Trump administration signals it will stop at nothing to silence dissent.
