Statement on AHCA and Executive Order
“With the American Health Care Act, members of the House and the Administration have hung young people out to dry with this heartless, unethical, short-sighted bill,” said Debra Hauser, President of Advocates for Youth. “It’s clear that they are not interested in protecting the well-being of millions. It’s unconscionable that they voted to defund Planned Parenthood, take coverage from those with pre-existing conditions, and put access to contraception, STI testing, and put other essential health care benefits at risk.
To withhold care from young people who have experienced sexual assault, are living with HIV, or who are pregnant or have been pregnant is immoral at best.”
Meanwhile, at the White house, the President signed an executive order putting the weight of the government behind those who would use their religion as a guise to discriminate. Under the veil of “regulatory relief” this order opens the door for the denial of contraceptive access.
“Young people care about their fellow humans. They know that health care is a right, not a privilege reserved for the wealthy. They support health care for all who need it, and they won’t stand for a government that gives license to discriminate,” said Debra Hauser, President of Advocates for Youth.
