Under the supervision of the Digital Content & Brand Marketing Manager the intern will assist in the daily planning, operations, and content creation for all Advocates social media platforms. 

In addition to assisting in creating day-to-day social media posts as requested by staff, by the end of the internship, the Social Media Intern will have completed one original social media campaign highlighting one of Advocates issue areas. This project will include research, social strategy, content creation, and scheduling.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Schedule content for social media using Hootsuite, Planoly, and other social media management tools
  • Review and manage the social media calendar to make sure all programs, campaigns, and weeks of action are properly promoted. This includes ensuring all graphics, assets, captions, hashtags, and links are added to the social media calendar before approval and posting.
  • Work creatively with the Comms team to ensure large campaigns are executed in a timely, precise manner. Keep track of work and project status via Monday.com
  • Field incoming social media requests and make sure they are scheduled or handed off to the Digital Content & Brand Marketing Manager.
  • Manage and organize a catalog of content including graphics, photos, videos, and user generated content.
  • Research trends and film short-form video content for Tik Tok and Instagram Reels.
  • Create and manage a calendar of organization-wide events, awareness days, weeks of action, and holidays.
  • Produce innovative social media content in the Advocates voice while incorporating new trends and relevant news

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Background or interest in social media management, digital marketing, and content creation
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with a diverse group of people
  • Interest in reproductive rights, racial justice, and sexual health
  • Excellent writing, storytelling, and communication skills through social media stories and web content
  • Experience using digital tools and social media, with examples of current and successful uses of social media networks such as, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok etc.
  • Comfortability filming videos for the Advocate’s social pages  is preferred, but not required
  • Ability to work independently and manage your time effectively.

TIMELINE & COMPENSATION:

The intern will be paid $17.50 per hour for 16 hours per week between June 10th – September 9th. (Preferably two full days (9am-6pm) per week, but hours are flexible, depending on schedule).

LOCATION: Advocates’ offices are based in Washington, DC, but candidates for this position can be hybrid or fully remote with a preference for those based in the DMV area.
