What is #FreeThePill Youth Council?

The #FreeThePill Youth Council is a collaboration between Advocates for Youth and Ibis Reproductive Health and is made up of youth activists from across the country who are working in their communities to bring birth control over-the-counter, covered by insurance with no age-restriction. For more information, check out: https://www.advocatesforyouth.org/campaigns/free-the-pill-youth-council/

What do #FreeThePill youth council members do?

Advocates for Youth will provide 15 selected youth organizers with advocacy and media training, ongoing technical support, campaign supplies, and $600 each semester for related campus events. Other in-person and/or virtual trainings will also be available throughout the year.

The goals of #FreeThePill Youth Council members are to:

  • Serve as activists, advocates, and spokespeople for affordability and accessibility of over-the-counter birth control pills
  • Mobilize fellow young people to support campaigns to ensure over-the-counter birth control pills are covered by insurance, without age-restrictions.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of digital, on-campus, and local campaigns to raise awareness about the need for accessibility of over-the-counter birth control pills.
  • Educate the media on issues related to contraceptive access for young people
