The Fight for Access

Medication abortion, sometimes called the abortion pill, usually means two medications: mifepristone and misoprostol. These medications prevent a pregnancy from growing, and then cause the uterus to empty.

Medication abortion is NOT the same medication as Plan B. Plan B works to prevent a pregnancy from happening, while medication abortion ends a pregnancy after it has begun.

More than 20 years of research and peer-reviewed scientific data show s that medication abortion is safe, and effective. But anti-abortion politicians have been attacking medication abortion since the time it was approved, and even before.  As a result, many states require medically unnecessary trips to the provider’s office – adding cost, wait time, and inconvenience to a person’s abortion experience.
