Advocates for Youth Launches TikTok Riddle Contest

#DoGoodFeelGood Campaign Aims to Increase Youth Access to Quality Sexual and COVID Prevention Resources and Information

For Immediate Release

FEBRUARY 14, 2021 — WASHINGTON, DC As sexual and reproductive health experts continue to study COVID-19’s impact on efforts to accurately and effectively trace and detect sexually transmitted infections,  Advocates for Youth today announced the launch of its #DoGoodFeelGood campaign aimed at increasing young people’s access to condoms and sexual health knowledge, as well as masks.

The campaign officially kicks off this Valentine’s Day with the Tiktok Riddle Challenge, in which anyone with a riddle sharing a fact about condoms or masks can enter to win up to $1,000 in cash prizes. To participate, contestants share their video with the hashtag #DoGoodFeelGood, and submit a link at the official contest page. Deadline for submissions is March 31st. Winners will be announced at a live virtual awards ceremony on April 15, 2021 during the annual STI Awareness Week.

Here’s an example:

Riddle me this: Wearing two of these is more effective than wearing just one.

Answer: Masks and masks only! Masks are more effective when you use two of them, but one condom is enough!

Recent research and surveys from leading institutions such as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have found that the number of STI cases have decreased likely due to test supply shortages during the pandemic, and as a result, tens of thousands of STI cases have gone undetected. Although difficult to pinpoint, experts have identified a number of not-so-positive factors may also be contributing to the downward trend, such as understaffing of health clinics, delays in reporting cases, and patients avoiding check-ups and screenings due to coronavirus fears.

For the past 40 years, Advocates for Youth has worked to increase young people’s access to condoms and sexual health knowledge, the need for which has become even more amplified in today’s post-COVID society. The cornerstone of this work is The Condom Collective, a program that equips college students with around 1.2 million free condoms a year along with sexual health resources and organizing support. To date, more than 18 million condoms have been distributed. This year, Condom Collective members are distributing free condoms AND masks across the country— along with the message that young people deserve free access to reliable and effective tools that can help them lead safe, healthy lives.

“We’ve watched as the pandemic has transformed learning overnight, creating an even greater need for innovative approaches to sex education that are honest, inclusive, and medically-accurate,” said Lincoln Mondy, Associate Director of Strategic Projects at Advocates for Youth. “Young people are always ahead of the game, and now they have turned to TikTok to bust myths and shatter stigma. We’re thrilled to champion young people as they riddle their feeds with facts about the efficacy and importance of condoms and masks.”
