Abortion Access and Reproductive Justice
Advocates for Youth works with young people to ensure everyone has access to the reproductive health care and abortion care they need, regardless of age, income, or where they live, and that each of us has the right to bodily autonomy.
Young people leading the movement
Youth activists around the country are working on their campuses and in their communities to build access to abortion – by providing information about self-managed abortion, advocating for access to abortion on campus, sharing abortion stories, serving as abortion doulas, providing practical support, and more. These young people are at the forefront of the fight for abortion access. Activists are also working to ensure that everyone has what they need to make the decisions about reproduction and sexuality that are best for them, including young people, lower income folks, BIPOC people, and anyone marginalized and disproportionately affected by health disparities.
What’s Reproductive Justice?
Reproductive Justice (RJ) means the human right to control our sexuality, our gender, our work, and our reproduction, and is a framework developed by Black women to center marginalized people in reproductive health and rights activism.

Abortion Storytelling
In 2011 Advocates founded the groundbreaking 1 in 3 Campaign, working with over 1400 abortion storytellers to share their experiences with politicians, media, and the public to build empathy and end the silence and stigma around abortion. 1 in 3 evolved into YouthTestify, a project with WeTestify centering youth storytellers.

“I want to focus on educating my peers at my university on self-managed abortion through information shares and aftercare kit workshops for themselves and others who may be self-managing. Most of what I do includes elements of education, practical support, and base building within my university and local community.”

Policy Priorities
Our policy priorities for young people, reproductive justice, and abortion access include:
- Legislation to support access to medication abortion on college campuses
- Opposing laws which mandate parental involvement in minors’ abortion care
- Federal legislation to expand abortion access and reduce barriers.
- Permanent reversal of the Hyde amendment banning federal funds for abortion coverage
- The expansion of health care services for immigrant families.
For Adult Allies
Adults can support young people who need abortion access by providing them resources and support. Visit the “I need an abortion” page to learn more about how to get an abortion.
