Youth Organizing Wins Elections
Yesterday’s elections saw record-breaking turnout from youth voters, demonstrating that youth organizing wins elections.
In response, Debra Hauser, President of the national youth activism and reproductive health organization Advocates for Youth, issued the following statement:
“In elections across the country, young people sent a clear message: we’re here, we’re organized, and the future is ours. Today, that future looks a little brighter.
Advocates for Youth congratulates Zohran Mamdani on making history as the first Muslim mayor-elect of New York City and the city’s youngest mayor in a century. We also celebrate Abigail Spanberger becoming the first woman governor-elect of Virginia. Countless young people will see themselves represented in the halls of power for the first time.
Above all, we congratulate the thousands of youth organizers who refused to bow to extremism and despair. Organizing is hard work, and young people rolled up their sleeves and knocked doors, built coalitions, engaged in difficult conversations, and mobilized peers to fight alongside them.
Young people will never stop building a world where every person, of any age and every background, has access to sexual and reproductive health services, gender-affirming care, comprehensive sex education and HIV prevention and treatment. The youth revolution is here to stay, and we’re proud to be part of it.”
