For Youth Activists
The Youth Activist Institute (YAI)
Each year, Advocates for Youth hosts over 100 youth activists at a five-day conference in Washington, D.C., where young people and Advocates staff build skills, share expertise, and build a strategic plan to create change in their communities.
What happens at YAI?
Young people from around the country gather in D.C. and participate in in-depth trainings on community organizing, political activism, mutual aid, media engagement, reproductive justice, movement history, and much more. Working both in their program groups and with the group as a whole, youth activists lead trainings, make connections, and share expertise with one another. Activists also join social events and have networking opportunities with movement leaders.
“Advocates gives youth a community of fellow activists, teaching us how to work with and learn from each other as we fight for self-determination, reproductive and sexual agency, and health rights together.” – Briana, Program Alumna
Who participates in YAI?
Advocates offers youth programs that recruit a core group of youth leaders every year. Part of program training is a scholarship to attend YAI.
