Statement on the 2024 Election
Donald J. Trump has won the 2024 presidential election, securing a second term in the White House.
In response, Deb Hauser, President of the national youth reproductive and sexual health organization Advocates for Youth, issued the following statement:
“Today’s presidential election result comes as a blow to young people across the country fighting for reproductive rights, racial justice, and bodily autonomy. We stand with youth organizers in their grief, their rage and their disappointment.
Make no mistake: we are no stranger to setbacks, and youth activists will continue to strategize and mobilize against misinformation and extremism in all its forms. Advocates for Youth remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting young people and their ability to make informed decisions about their body and their future unobstructed by political extremism or judicial activism – regardless of who occupies the Oval Office.
We congratulate voters in Colorado, Maryland, New York, Missouri, Arizona, Nevada and Montana, and applaud the work of organizers in those states who fought to have the people’s support for abortion access reflected in the law. We also congratulate Sarah McBride, the first openly transgender person elected to Congress. Young people helped secure these victories and will continue working to move this country toward liberation.”
