Press Statement on 2016 Election Results

Young people are leading the fight for justice and safety in this country; that fact has not changed between yesterday and today. We may face setbacks. We may feel terrible grief at the willingness of so many in this country to embrace hate. But we know that millions of young people are fighting hard every day to make our world a better place, and to take us forward, not backward.

“Youth leaders are on the frontline of the movements for reproductive rights, racial justice, immigration reform, and LGBT equality and they expect their leaders to stand with them. There is no question that young people will continue to radically change our political system. They are tireless in their commitment to creating a better world, and they won’t tolerate hatred and bigotry,” said Debra Hauser, President of Advocates for Youth.  “They won’t be stopped by these election results. They will be galvanized.”

Now is the time to gather our loved ones around us, and take care of each other. The months and years ahead will be hard.  But as a nation, and as a community, we must work with youth leaders to move ahead and realize the vision of a world that is safe and just for all young people.
