Ending funding for WHO is wrong, especially now

Advocates for Youth denounces President Trump’s announcement to stop U.S. funding for the World Health Organization (WHO).  In the midst of a pandemic, it is unconscionable that the United States would choose to stop its contributions to the one global entity that serves as the coordinating authority on international health and has the technical capacity and mandate to support the public health response to COVID-19.  Such action would be profoundly irresponsible at a time when global coordination is key to saving lives around the world and in the United States, which has the highest number of cases and deaths due to COVID-19 worldwide. The WHO serves as a critical resource to governments, health professionals, and non-profit organizations such as ours and we value their partnership and guidance to advance the health and well-being of young people around the world.  As a rights-based and public health organization that works domestically and globally, we stand by the WHO and call on President Trump to do the right thing for the United States and the world at large by continuing to fund and work with the WHO.
