Advocates Condemns Racist, Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric and Violence
Advocates for Youth strongly condemns the racist and violent rhetoric regarding the Haitian people and immigrants that has become prevalent on the news and social media. Said Debra Hauser, President of Advocates for Youth:
“White supremacy in this country is spreading unchecked by politicians who are intent on causing harm – and it’s getting worse every day. Haitian and other immigrants around the country are facing discrimination and danger. Students in Springfield Ohio have had to evacuate or miss school days because of threats of violence. Business have been broken into and property vandalized.
No young person should have to hear such vile, harmful comments, or experience violence. Yet some politicians continue to fan the flames of hatred and bigotry.
Young people are building a world where everyone is safe and celebrated for who they are. They understand that attacks on immigrants come from the same people who would strip young people of so many of their other rights and who have attacked many other vulnerable communities. Young people will continue to fight against anti-immigrant attacks and those who perpetuate them.”
