SPEAKOUT: Over 100 Women and Allies Share Their Abortion Stories to Refocus the Debate from Political to Personal

Supporters From Across the Country Join the 1 in 3 Campaign’s National Speakout & Live Stream to Tell Their Stories, Including President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America Cecile Richards and Daily Show Co-Creator Lizz Winstead.
Washington, DC – On Thursday, November 20, the 1 in 3 Campaign will host a national Speakout where a diverse group of over 100 people from across the country will share their experiences with abortion as part of a national movement to begin a new, honest, and personal conversation in support of abortion care.
The event will feature prominent voices sharing their stories, including President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America Cecile Richards, Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead, Rep. Mike Quigley, and columnist Jessica Valenti. Students on 20 campuses from states across the country including Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, and Michigan, will host watch parties and engage in a dialogue about women’s experiences with abortion.
“One in three women will experience an abortion in her lifetime, yet abortion continues to be stigmatized, women shamed and providers demonized,” said Debra Hauser, president of Advocates for Youth, the group that sponsors the 1 in 3 Campaign. “We are telling our stories on November 20th and throughout the year to shatter the silence, break through the political rhetoric, and put women’s real life experiences at the center of efforts to ensure abortion access for women and their family es.”
