EACH Woman Act Statement
Advocates for Youth applauds the introduction of the EACH Woman act, legislation which lifts bans on insurance coverage for abortion, by Representatives Barbara Lee (D-CA) and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL). One in three women will have an abortion in her lifetime, and no one’s income level should determine their decisions about pregnancy for them. Young people, low income women, and women of color are most affected by these bans.
“The EACH Woman Act is a beacon of hope in an increasingly dark time,” said Debra Hauser, President of Advocates for Youth. “Young people need access to and coverage for all their reproductive health needs, including abortion. Congress should be fighting for our futures and our families in the face of increasingly brazen and heartless attacks.”
Representatives Lee and Schakowsky have introduced the EACH Woman Act alongside Pro-Choice Caucus Co-Chairs Diana DeGette (D-CO) and Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and 97 other members of Congress.
