Last year, NY Campus Co-Coordinators worked alongside student organizers and coalition partners to secure the passage of A1395-C/S1213, a bill that requires CUNY and SUNY campuses to provide access to medication abortion prescription drugs by employing or contracting with individuals authorized to prescribe such drugs, or by providing referrals.

Given the passage of A1395-C/S1213-B, this work will continue through student-centered implementation of legislation and possible campaign for state-allocated funding. 

The Campus Co-Coordinators will work to identify key student leaders on each New York public university campus, working closely with established campus groups and organizational chapters. Once identified, the Campus Coordinators will co-create and co-lead statewide trainings for the student leaders, educating them on policy advocacy, campus organizing, and reproductive rights and justice.The Campus Coordinators will also co-lead lawmaker education efforts in New York, organizing multiple in-person and virtual opportunities for students to meet with their representatives to discuss medication abortion care on campus. 


In collaboration with the State Campaign Manager for Abortion Access, you will:

  • Develop strategy to identify, engage, and mobilize New York State public university student leaders to work to expand access to medication abortion on campus 
  • Identify student leaders on SUNY and CUNY public campuses 
  • Work in collaboration with New York state partners such as the Reproductive Justice Collective (RJC), NYC for Abortion Rights (NYCFAR), the National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH), Planned Parenthood of Greater New York (PPGNY), and Planned Parenthood Empire States Act (PPESA) on a growing campaign for medication abortion on campus by attending state coalition calls, planning coalition-wide actions, and assisting as needed with campaign 
  • Create and execute in-person and virtual trainings (in-person TBD depending on COVID and safety protocols) for all student leaders on policy advocacy, youth organizing, and reproductive justice 
  • Identify and support student abortion storytellers in sharing their abortion stories with legislators, the press, and on social media 
  • Work with Advocates for Youth policy team on policy campaign materials such as one-pagers, story booklets, and other written information about medication abortion on campus policy for students and lawmakers 
  •  Lead strategy to engage campus leaders in support of abortion on campus including University administrators, faculty and faculty associations, student government associations, and alumni groups 
  • Work with the Advocates for Youth communications team to work with students to place op-eds and articles in on-campus publications 
  • In collaboration with student leaders, co-create social media content on medication abortion on campus on Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok


  • Must be currently located in New York 
  • Prior experience with youth advocacy and policy campaign experience within the state of New York (does not have to be in a paid capacity.) 
  • Demonstrated interest in abortion access and demonstrated knowledge of state legislative processes and policy issues surrounding young people’s abortion access at the state level. 
  • Familiarity with the New York legislative process. 
  • Familiarity with the New York public university system. Being a current student or alum is a plus. 
  • Ability to digest large amounts of information quickly and turn it into concise, user-friendly materials for state partners, legislators, and youth. 
  • Ability to link public policy with grassroots organizing and communications’ strategies. 
  • Must be a self-starter, able to prioritize and meet tight deadlines. 
  • Strong racial justice analysis and a deep commitment to the tenets of reproductive justice. 
  • Commitment to youth activism and leadership is essential. 
  • A demonstrated capacity to work with a diverse group. 
  • A commitment to Advocates for Youth’s mission, values, and goals required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to young people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights including abortion access, LGBTQ health and rights, and HIV prevention and treatment, among others. 
  • Having a car to easily travel between impacted campuses is a plus but not required. Gas and other travel related expenses will be reimbursed. 
  • Spanish language competency is a plus 


This is a part-time (5-20 hours per week depending on key moments in the campaign) consultancy for a three month period from April 2024 to June 2024 with a possibility of extension to June 2025.

Starting in April 2024  and through June 2024 with the possibility of extension to June 2025, Advocates for Youth will provide a $2,500/month stipend based upon completion of work and deliverables. This consultancy does not include benefits. Advocates will issue consultants a Form 1099 for each tax year. 


This position will require the candidate to be based anywhere in New York State. The position involves virtual work and travel throughout the state (following local COVID-19 guidelines). 

START DATE: April 1st, 2024
