Abortion on Campus
Activists leading the Abortion On Campus project on their campuses host abortion speakouts, lead public education campaigns and work with campus, local, and state officials to strengthen young people’s access to abortion services. Abortion On Campus leaders are building a groundswell of youth activism for abortion access on college campuses.
Ways campuses can support abortion access
- Medication (or procedural) abortion on campus + access to telehealth referrals
- Formal recognition of and funding reproductive justice and pro-abortion student orgs
- Attendance policies allowing for student travel for abortion
- Funding support for students seeking abortion off campus (similar to a grief fund)
- See UC Davis Health Equity Fund
- Can be a “no questions asked” fund that students can use for any additional need
- Access to EC and full range of contraception services through student health center
- EC4EC campaign and Free the Pill campaign (Advocates for Youth leads student organizing around FTP)
- Inclusivity and outreach re: service provision (making sure services are inclusive of gender-expansive students, ensuring they are sharing information about services with students outwardly through peer ed, etc)
- Increasing privacy and confidentiality practices when students access abortion care
- Ensuring that fake clinics are not on their referral lists for abortion care
- Ensuring that campuses have a strong referral system for abortion care off-campus (comprehensive information about closest clinic, etc).
