I had my abortion 15 years ago and I’ve never regretted it. I was 33 years old and already had 2 children, ages 2 and 5. The 3rd pregnancy was unplanned.

My husband and I saw a wonderful counselor who suggested that I visualize what day-to-day life would be like with my current family of 4 and what it would be like with a 3rd child. Within 24 hours, I knew that having another child would have decreased the quality of life for the 4 of us in a variety of ways. It was the right decision for us and we’ve never regretted it.

Since I freely share my story about my abortion, about twenty women have shared their experiences with me. Of the 20, only one woman had a regret…but she regretted it before, during and after the abortion. As she walked in to the clinic, her mom was with her and she kept hoping her mom would offer to help her raise the child. At the clinic, when she was asked if she wanted an abortion, she knew in her heart that she wanted the pregnancy. Not surprisingly, years later, she had regrets. I’ve never heard of anyone (young or old) who wanted the abortion and then years later regretted the decision.

It’s a difficult decision to make. It’s great that women (currently) have the right to choose a safe, legal abortion.
