It’s finals week for my first semester of grad school, and I had my first abortion yesterday – on my first anniversary with my boyfriend. The past 48 hours have been a blur, though more out of stress for finals than for the decision I made. There was never any question about that.

I seem to have gotten pregnant despite having the 99% effective Paragard IUD. Guess that makes me the 1%. Either way, I’m incredibly lucky that I had the resources and support to troubleshoot and get back to normal, all within 72 hours. I plan on telling the story tonight during my stand-up gig. We’ll see how that goes.
