Join Our Youth Initiatives!

Advocates for Youth is now recruiting for young people ages 14-24 to join together to fight for accurate sexual health information and services so that they can prevent unintended pregnancy and/or STIs (sexually transmitted infections), including HIV.


Campus Organizers

Campus Organizers work with the staff of the Youth Activist Network, running one Advocates for Youth’s Rights. Respect. Responsibility.® campaigns on their campus and in their local area. Campus Organizers help in developing media outreach, building local support for the reproductive and sexual health rights of young people, and participating in advocacy visits to policy makers. Youth Activist Network staff will provide Campus Organizers with training on advocacy, media relations, and public policy as well as organizing materials and other forms of technical assistance.

High School Organizers

High School Organizers work with Advocates for Youth’s staff to change their high school’s sex education policy to one that supports the teaching of comprehensive sex education. The Youth Activist Network High School Organizers will conduct media outreach, build local support for comprehensive sex education, and participate in advocacy directed toward policy-makers. Advocates for Youth’s staff will provide the High School Organizers with training on advocacy, media relations, and public policy as well as organizing materials to aid in this work.

International Youth Leadership Council

The International Youth Leadership Council members serve as youth educators, advocates, and spokespeople on the issue of adolescent sexual and reproductive health. Council members work with the staff of the International Division to increase American support for adolescent sexual and reproductive health, especially international family planning and global HIV/AIDS.

To fulfill these goals, Council members organize campus events, utilize media outlets, develop educational workshops, and lobby policy makers at the federal and international level on the importance of U.S. commitment to fighting global HIV and AIDS and of supporting international family planning.

MySistahs Online Peer Educators

MySistahs is a Web site created by and for young women of color to provide information and offer support on sexual and reproductive health issues through education and advocacy. Through monthly features and online peer education, young women receive information on activism, culture, sexual health, and other issues that are important to them. Online peer educators answer questions posed by visitors and point visitors to appropriate resources. Online peer educators do not provide medical advice. They also help in developing content by writing articles for MySistahs.

We are no longer accepting applications for the 2006-2007 school year.


Young Women of Color Leadership Council

The Young Women of Color Leadership Council is composed of young leaders and activists who come together to promote a message of prevention and empowerment. All of the Council’s work is a collaboration of diversity and passion, in the hopes of affecting a million more young women of color.

YouthResource Online Peer Educators

YouthResource, a Web site by and for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning (GLBTQ) young people takes a holistic approach to sexual health and exploring issues of concern to GLBTQ youth. Online peer educators answer questions posed by visitors and point visitors to appropriate resources. Online peer educators do not provide medical advice. They also help in developing content by writing articles for YouthResource.
