The Rights. Respect. Responsibility.® Condom Campaign

The Rights. Respect. Responsibility.® Condom Art Contest is designed to educate young people about the importance of condoms. With abstinence-only-until-marriage programs still prevelent, critical information about condoms and contraception is missing from classroom discussions of sexuality. The Condom Art Contest is a fun, youth-driven way for young people to start conversations about sexual health – with friends and family members.

This goal of the Rights. Respect. Responsibility.® Condom Art Contest is to normalize discussion about safer sex, to provide science-based information about the effectiveness of condoms, and to increase partner communication about using condoms for those who are sexually active. The contest has already been an unprecedented success, with over 1,200 entries submitted from young people across the United States.

Mo: “When I found out that I won the contest, I told my parents. They were really happy for me, and they were totally supportive of me volunteering out in the world and me promoting safe sex and all of that... And that’s really awesome of them..”

TALKING WITH MY FAMILY

Andi: “I think it was a lot easier for my brothers to talk to my mom about sex ed stuff just through the contest, by talking about the contest. Not necessarily sex ed in specific, or the contest in specific, but mixing the two together.”

A LOT LESS TABOO

Stop. Drop. and Roll.

Watch the clip: Quicktime Format (.mov) or Windows Media Player Format (.wmv)

Jesse: “I think that the condom contest makes condoms a lot less taboo… I heard from a young man in the Midwest who had for the first time been able to talk to his father about sexual health, and to me, that just amazes me that one thing online, one comprehensive tool, one contest could open the door to such an important topic.”

THE ITALIAN RESTAURANT

After Dinner Mint

Marika: “I went to the bathroom and in the little area where they have postcards usually I was looking and I saw two or three of the Advocates for Youth designs, that I’d seen or that I’d been sent after I won. I was like ‘Hey, I recognize those! I’ve know those designs!’ It was very cool to see that they were actually getting out there.”
