We Are All Youth, Here to Help Empower Other Youth

By Megan, Former Online Peer Educator with MySistahs.org, Advocates for Youth

Megan, youth activist

Wha a gwan? E aí? ¿Qué tal? Hi! How are you doing? My name is Megan. I am currently living and studying in New England. However, I grew up in Arizona (a state I miss and love) on an Indian reservation with my family. (I am half American Indian and half Thai.) When I am not at home or at school, you will find me traveling and studying in places around the world. I have been blessed with many opportunities to learn about others’ cultures and experiences. In fact, MySistahs is one great example of such an experience; here, I have been able to share ideas and experiences with young women from all over the country. I became a peer educator when I was in high school, and now as a senior in college, I am excited to be a part of MySistahs.

During the school year, I work at a local hospital as a subject recruiter for a child wellness study. I have been involved with various student organizations during college. Two of my most rewarding activities have been mentoring middle school girls from the local community, and leading discussions on health and safety with peers on campus. In general, I love talking to young people about health issues and their rights.

As the daughter of a teen mother, I am passionate about the issues that surround teen pregnancy. I am also interested in challenges that people of mixed heritage face, topics of women’s empowerment, and current events in global and domestic health.

We are all youth, here to help empower other youth.
