I Will Make Change Not Only in My Community, But Other Communities As Well
By Kathleen, Member, Young Women of Color Leadership Council, Advocates for Youth
I first became involved with Advocates for Youth through serving as a peer educator for Youth Resource for the 2005-2006 year. With Advocates for Youth, I am part of the Young Women of Color Leadership Council where I will make change not only in my community, but other communities as well. I will stand out and be a role model for other women of color and let them know that they have the power and control over their body and sexuality, and they should be empowered to take action to keep themselves healthy. I am an avid dancer and am trained in the Limón and Graham form of modern dance. I was the president of Moving Company, my school’s dance company. I am the youngest member of the Advocates Council with Planned Parenthood of Greater Cleveland where I help make decisions on activities and outreach initiatives. The Advocates Council is a stepping stone to being on the board of directors for Planned Parenthood of Greater Cleveland. I plan to get my degree in Women’s Studies and Latin American Studies while also participating in the 3-3 law program at Fordham (3 years undergrad., 3 years law school). My dream is to get my Ph.D. in Women’s Studies. I would like to practice divorce law or corporate law. I like to goof around and have a good time. I love to paint, and I love talking about reproductive rights!
