If I Don’t Stand Up For Other Young Women Like Myself, Who Will Stand Up For Me!
By Amber, Member, Young Women of Color Leadership Council, Advocates for Youth
Greetings!
My name is Amber, and I am a junior and a Political Science Major at a college in Atlanta, Georgia. I am very interested in pursuing a career in public policy that complements my academic background, professional goals and personal interests. I am an advocate for women’s sexual health and reproductive rights and I have been involved in advocacy work for 4 years. My first experience was as an online peer educator with MySistahs.org, which confirmed my commitment in making a difference in this field. In addition to working with the council, I am the presidential advisor for the my college chapter of the NAACP, community service chair for my college Pre-Alumnae Council, and a Reading Adds Up tutor for a local elementary school.
I look forward to working with the Young Women of Color Leadership Council, in order to challenge myself to attain a greater level of skill. I am passionate about the work I do because it empowers other young women to understand the power of their minds, bodies and voices. And if I don’t stand up for other young women like myself, who will stand up for me!
