International Youth Leadership Council Print

The International Youth Leadership Council was formed in October 2000 as a project of Advocates for Youth. It is composed of young people with family ties to and interest in the developing world. These youth leaders work to improve the reproductive health and well-being of their peers.

The 2014-2015 council members are:

Angelica | Sohee | Imani | Allison | Chinmayee | Lizzy

Council members serve as youth educators, advocates, and spokespeople on issues of adolescent sexual and reproductive health. Their work aligns with Advocates for Youth's vision of Rights.Respect.Responsibility.®. Council members develop media outreach campaigns, conduct policy forums, plan and run press conferences, participate in advocacy visits to policy makers, and attend conferences to further the goals of the International Youth Leadership Council:

  • Educate U.S. policy makers on the importance of increasing funding for international family planning;
  • Educate U.S. policy makers on the importance of increasing funding for global HIV and AIDS prevention and treatment;
  • Increase the public's awareness of the impact of global HIV and AIDS on young people around the world;
  • Increase the public's awareness of the impact of international family planning on the economic stability and sexual health of young people around the world; and
  • Educate U.S. and international media on the issues of global HIV and AIDS and international family planning.
