There are people struggling with these issues daily and I want to be able provide a voice for them when they are quiet, an ear when they’re not, and a hand when they’re down. Spencer works with Advocates for Youth and the Texas Freedom Network as a member of the Texas Youth Leadership Council.
I became a youth activist to evoke change and encourage education on topics and issues that need to be discussed. Many people may share these similar beliefs but need a place or organization for their voice to be heard. My goal is to provide that place that won’t let a voice go unheard. I believe we, the students, activists, and educators can be the most important demographic to bring about change in our world. We should have the power to influence the issues that affect our generation, issues such as abstinence-only programs, abortion, GLBTQ rights, sex education, and human rights. There are people struggling with these issues daily and I want to be able provide a voice for them when they are quiet, an ear when they’re not, and a hand when they’re down. |

My name is Spencer, and I’m a 20 year old junior at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I have always been interested in youth activism and volunteer work. But I really became involved with the youth sexual health and rights movement when I joined the Texas Freedom Network at the University of Texas at San Antonio during my second year in school.
