What I would like to see for my generation and future generations is more opportunities to learn what they need to know about sex. Whether it’s in school, at home, or other resources, I want them to be able to get the information they need to make an informed decision. Colleen is a member of the campus organizing team.
Growing up, whether at school or at home, sex was not a topic that was talked about often. If it was talked about at all, little education was given on the topic. As I grew up, I started to notice that my friends and I did not know what to do when it came to sex. Coming to college and learning more about sexual health made me want to help fill in the education gaps for my peers so that they would never have to guess. What I would like to see for my generation and future generations is more opportunities to learn what they need to know about sex. Whether it’s in school, at home, or other resources, I want them to be able to get the information they need to make an informed decision. I feel it is important for young people to advocate for sexual health and rights because we are the ones that are being affected or will be affected by what decisions are being made now. Youth also bring new and different perspectives on topics that might not have been thought of. |

I became active in the activism of youth sexual health and rights movement two years ago when I joined REACH (Responsible Education and Action for Campus Health) Peer Education. While working on my minor in Public Health I started to learn of the lack of information provided to young people on topics pertaining to sex. This made me want to go out and help fill in these gaps.
