I hope that those I educate take the information given, apply it to their lives, make responsible decisions, and eventually become positive role models for the future youth in our society.

Terrance, 21, is a college senior and an activist with the South Carolina Youth Activist Network.

As a youth activist, my focus is on educating young men on ways to protect themselves. I feel that it is important that men are knowledgeable about sexual and reproductive health issues that could potentially be harmful to not only their lives but also the lives of their partners. It is also imperative that they reject the misleading myth that it is up to the female to protect both parties. Young men need to learn to take responsibility and grasp the concept of protecting themselves.

Educating my peers is something that I do not take lightly. I feel as if youth my age often receive the message of sexual reproductive health from peers, as opposed to an older person whom they feel they cannot relate to. While this may be true, my motivation for educating youth comes from the enthusiasm that is possessed by older adults to inform them on the same subject. I hope that those I educate take the information given, apply it to their lives, make responsible decisions, and eventually become positive role models for the future youth in our society.
