October 2007 marked Advocates for Youth's sixth year conducting its intensive youth activist training institute, the Urban Retreat. Youth Activists in London!
Members of Advocates for Youth's International Youth Leadership Council (IYLC) attended "Women Deliver,"; an international conference held in London from October 18-20th. The conference focused on efforts to improve the health of women, mothers and newborn babies around the world. IYLC's Haben, Andrew, Lesley and Brian participated in workshops, networked with other youth activists, and worked with the media to ensure that young peoples' voices were a part of the greater dialogue. They also blogged about their experiences for RhRealityCheck.org.

World AIDS Day 2007
According to UNAIDS estimates, there are now 39.5 million people living with HIV, including 2.3 million children, and during 2006 some 4.3 million people became newly infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and are killed by AIDS before they are 35.
Around 95% of people with HIV/AIDS live in developing nations. But HIV today is a threat to men, women and children on all continents around the world.

There are traditional women, who often live their lives in reflection of their grandmothers and great-grandmothers, and there are revolutionary women, who are independent, and step outside the boundaries of social identities. Whoever she is, whether a mother, sister, aunt, friend, or stranger, the woman is to be respected physically, sexually, and psychologically by others. To read more, click here.
