Advocates for Youth's e-News Update
National HIV Testing Day
Tuesday, June 27, 2006
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 40,000 Americans become infected with HIV every year. As youth under the age of 25, we represent fifty percent of those new HIV cases. In addition, an estimated 180,000 to 280,000 people in the United States are HIV-positive but unaware of their status. Let’s put an end to that. On June 27, join Americans all around the nation in getting tested for HIV. Don’t stay in the dark; get tested for HIV and be aware of your status.
For more information on HIV testing, or to find a testing location in your area, visit http://www.hivtest.org.

Campus and High School Organizers work with the staff of the Youth Activist Network to change current local and national sex education and HIV prevention policies to policies that allow for accurate, honest and comprehensive education. Campus and High School Organizers help in developing media outreach, building local support for the reproductive and sexual health rights of young people, and participating in advocacy visits to policy makers.
Stop Censorship!
Each and every day in the United States, 10,000 teens contract a sexually transmitted disease, 2400 get pregnant, and 55 contract HIV. Fifty percent of new HIV cases occur among youth under the age of 25. And what are politicians doing? They are censoring information that we need in order to protect ourselves. They are funding abstinence-only programs that prohibit information about contraception and condoms. Our politicians, without our consent, are banning the information we need to protect ourselves. Take a stand in your community and stop this censoship!
