Youth to Address Their Role in Fighting HIV/AIDS
Breakfast briefing Wednesday, February
20, 2002, will launch YouthLIFE program |
|
|
WHAT: |
Next week, Advocates
for Youth will host youth delegates from Botswana and Nigeria for
a panel on the role of youth in HIV/AIDS education
and advocacy. The youth are activists from the Youth
Health Organization in Botswana, the Nigerian Youth
Action Rangers, and Action Health Incorporated, both
of Nigeria.
The young people, along with others from South Africa, will participate
in YouthLIFE (Youth Leadership in Fighting the Epidemic), a project
funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose
goal is to build leadership capacity in the area of youth-specific
HIV/AIDS prevention and advocacy. Advocates for Youth is providing
opportunities for youth leaders from these organizations to expand
their skills as educators and advocates, and network with other
youth HIV/AIDS activists.
With nearly half of all new HIV infections occurring in those
under the age of 25, it is crucial that young people are given
the resources needed to fight this pandemic. Join Advocates for
Youth and its partnering organizations for the launch of YouthLIFE. |
