Advocates
for Youth to Honor Mr. Robert Coppel at National Conference
WASHINGTON,
DC (November 27, 2001) Advocates for Youth will honor Mr. Robert
Coppel of Los Angeles, CA, as the winner of the Rising
Sun Award for 2001 at an award luncheon on December 3, 2001, at
the Wyndham Hotel in Washington, DC.
The Rising
Sun Award was created to recognize passion and commitment in
an individual under 30 years of age to promoting adolescent sexual
health.
Mr. Coppel's
passion for providing teens with access to the resources needed to
make responsible sexual decisions has put him at the front of the field
of sexuality education. He has served as Health Educator and Assistant
Director at the Valley Community Clinic in Los Angeles and has recently
been appointed Male Service Manager for the California
Family Health Council.
"Robert
was chosen as the recipient for the Rising Sun Award not only
because of the magnitude of his accomplishments, and the
diverse group of young people he has touched," said Barbara Huberman, Director
of Education and Outreach for Advocates for Youth, "but also because
of his total commitment to providing youth the opportunity
to make responsible decisions about their sexual health."
Advocates
for Youth's 20th Anniversary Conference, Rights. Respect. Responsibility.®:
A New Paradigm for Healthy Adolescent Sexuality, will be held
December 2-4, 2001, in Washington, DC. This three-day learning
opportunity will challenge youth-serving professionals,
sexuality educators, policy
makers, health care providers, and youth themselves to
examine current adolescent reproductive and sexual health
policy and practice and to
embrace a new paradigm—one that affirms adolescent sexual development
as normal and healthy.
Advocates
for Youth is an international, nonprofit organization that works in
the U.S. and the developing world to create programs and support policies
that help young people make safe, responsible decisions about their
sexual and reproductive health.
