WASHINGTON,
DC (November 27, 2001) Advocates for Youth will honor Dr. Sol
Gordon at an evening reception on December 2, 2001, at the
Wyndham Hotel in Washington, DC.
Dr. Gordon
is Professor Emeritus of Child and Family Studies at Syracuse University
as well as former director of the University's Institute for Family
Research and Education. As an author and speaker, he is renowned for
his insight, humor, and honest approach to communication about sexuality,
family studies, relationships, and suicide prevention. He has written
many books including The Teenage Survival Book, Why Love is Not
Enough, and How Can You Tell If You're Really in Love?,
and has appeared on numerous television shows, including The Oprah
Winfrey Show, Sixty Minutes, and Today.
"Sol
Gordon is one of the best sexuality educators in the world," said
Barbara Huberman, Director of Education and Outreach for Advocates
for Youth. "His work has enabled all of us in the field of sexuality
education to stand strongly for what young people need
in terms of education and healthier messages."
Advocates
for Youth's 20th Anniversary Conference, Rights. Respect. Responsibility.®:
A New Paradigm for Healthy Adolescent Sexuality, will be held
December 2-4, 2001, in Washington, DC. This three-day learning
opportunity will challenge youth-serving professionals,
sexuality educators, policy
makers, health care providers, and youth themselves to
examine current adolescent reproductive and sexual health
policy and practice and to
embrace a new paradigm—one that affirms adolescent sexual development
as normal and healthy.
Advocates
for Youth is an international, nonprofit organization that works in
the U.S. and the developing world to create programs and support policies
that help young people make safe, responsible decisions about their
sexual and reproductive health.
