WHAT: |
Members of the International
Youth Leadership Council (IYLC) of Advocates
for Youth will launch a year-long "My
Voice Counts" campaign to mobilize
students throughout the country to demand
action from the Bush Administration and Congress
on
the issues of international family planning
and global HIV/AIDS.
"Our government should not be standing
on the sidelines when young people around
the world are on the frontline facing the
most terrifying health crisis in human history," said
Sean Barry, a Junior at the University of
Maryland College Park. "We plan to mobilize
young people throughout the U.S. to make
sure President Bush and Congress get that
message loud and clear."
The Youth Council will also issue an interim
report of President Bush's first 68 days
in office, as well as a report card grading
the 106th Congress and President
Clinton in the areas of international family
planning and global HIV/AIDS.
The International Youth Leadership Council
consists of a diverse group of students from
area colleges dedicated to educating policy
makers, the media and the American public
about the importance of increasing U.S. funding
for global HIV/AIDS and international family
planning. |
