Sebsiebe is a member of the Ethiopian Youth Council for Higher Opportunities through the International Youth Speak Out Project. My name is Sebsiebe. I am 23-years old and I am the Founder and Program Director of Chilanchil Anti-AIDS Association in Ethiopia. The Association raises awareness about reproductive health and HIV/AIDS issues in different parts of Addis Ababa—the city where I was born and raised. I have spent the past 11 years of my life fighting the spread of HIV in my community.
I decided to become an activist because I have a great passion for solving the problems of health issues in Ethiopia. I believe that people are highly affected by HIV/AIDS, due to lack of awareness and poverty. Mostly, I work on creating awareness about HIV and AIDS, reproductive health, and abuses of power on women and children.
Currently, my association works in collaboration with an organization called Right to Play to build recreational areas for youth like football, a popular sport in Ethiopia. We implement this program to enhance the development of youth so that they can excel in other interests in their lives.
My hopes are to continue to spread awareness of HIV/AIDS and promote social change in my community. My dream is that all of Ethiopia becomes free from HIV and AIDS and runs down the path to prosperity.
