Working with Youth
Robel Print

Robel is a member of the Ethiopian Youth Council for Higher Opportunities through the International Youth Speak Out Project.

RobelHi, my name is Robel and I am 21-years old.  I am a 3rd year painting student and I am a cartoonist at the Lambadina Newsletter, a monthly issue about reproductive health and HIV/AIDS amon youth.  I am also a regular contributor for Speak Africa, a movement of young Africans using art, media, culture, and other forms of dialogue to express themselves and exchange ideas as informed and active citizens.

I develop cartoons for the Lambadina and I ensure that there is youth-friendly language that speaks to my audience who read and learn about reproductive and sexual health issues.  I work very hard for Speak Africa, and thus far I have created:

  • an advocacy video to screen at several locations like prisons and within rural area communities to discuss  issues
  • brochures, booklets comic books, logos---  materials planned, designed and edited by the youth advocates
  • a radio advocacy program about the African youth charter, youth and patriotism
  • cartoon and painting exhibitions for an anti-vioence against children campaign
I personally believe that art is the best way to reach  most  people, especially  youth because they are interested in colorful messages like music, cartoons, comic books, etc. Now, I am using the creativity and passion I share for reproductive and sexual health issues to advocate as a member of Ethiopian Youth Council for Higher Opportunities (ECHO).
