Making a difference in the lives of our youth

My name is Nobles and I’m a male from Cleveland, Ohio. I'm currently a sophomore in college, I write and produce music, am a partner with several businesses, and I act. I keep a very busy schedule but when I learned of this opportunity I knew I had to free up some time to be a part of this movement! I was recently chosen to be a member of the Ohio Youth Leadership Council, a position I’m so grateful to have.

A chance to really make a difference in young people’s lives is a task that must be handled with extreme accountability as well as responsibility. Currently I am not involved in any other activist group besides the Ohio Youth Leadership Council but I intend to make the most of this opportunity. We live in a day and age where sexual activity amongst youth is at an all time high which presents even more of a need to promote sex education and make youth more aware of this issue. As a member of the council I intend to make key suggestions and present ideas that can not only benefit the council but the youth in Ohio. I am very excited about working with the other members from the council in hopes of creating programs and implementing various strategies to better inform our youth of what’s going on.

As a young man I feel it’s the responsibility of those of us who are older or around the same age as these youth to make sure they are being given enough information and being made aware of all the issues regarding sex. I believe we are the future and if the future isn’t prepared to step up when the time comes, how can we exist or even function? I’ve always lived my life by a simple principle of actions speak louder than words. So if we as the council and the youth of today do not take action regarding this issue, how much change will happen? Words can be spoken all day long, but if no action is present to back the words up how much of an effect can take place? With this being said I look forward to hopefully holding sexual education forums and rallies to promote sexual awareness in our youth’s lives today.

We need to hold more activities year round because we know that sexual activities happen year round. That makes even more of a need to be involved in youth’s lives with such programs and events to give them alternatives regarding sex. All kinds of diseases and illnesses are striking our youth down in their young ages and we can’t afford to continue to let this happen with as much as we can do. I believe that if real life situations were put in the faces of our youth their outlooks might change. So with this said, having speakers and films that demonstrate the dangers of sex and how young people can protect themselves can really impact their lives for the better by encouraging them to make decisions that will benefit them in their future. We need to have a passion and desire to make a difference in their lives, and while on the council, that’s not what I hope to do or feel I will do, I know that’s what I’ll do!
