Working with Youth
Joe Print

Joe is a member of the North Carolina Youth Leadership Council.

JoeMy name is Joseph and I am 19 years old. I go to UNC-Chapel Hill and I am double majoring in Business and Political Science.

From sixth grade to my senior year I was involved in student government, holding offices ranging from representative to president.  My junior year I was the North Carolina Association of Student Councils (NCASC) District secretary. In this role I was able to assist in developing and adapting the new NCASC constitution.  My senior year I was elected to be the student body secretary.

Along with my interest in school politics I have always had an interest in world politics, which is why I joined the Model United Nations team at my school in my freshman year.  As a part of this team I traveled to competitions all over the state and did my best to represent the country I was assigned and its views.  It forced me to look at the world from a different perspective.  For the four years of high school I also played soccer, tennis, and was on the  wrestling team.  My senior year I was captain of the wrestling team.

I have been very fortunate in my life because my mother has always been an advocate of comprehensive sex education classes.  She exposed me to activism at a young age, ranging from taking me to teen parenting classes to telling me stories of when she would meet with policy makers to lobby for comprehensive sex education.  It is because of her influence and the education I gained at a young age that I am as passionate as I am.
