Find Someone Who Can Say Yes Print

A Lesson Plan from Life Planning Education: A Youth Development Program (Chapter One)

NOTE:  Life Planning Education (LPE) is currently being revised. The printed/for-sale version includes an older version of this lesson plan. Please make sure you have looked at the PDF of Life Planning Education before purchasing - that is the version that is available to buy.

Purpose: To get acquainted with others and become more comfortable within the group

Materials: One copy of the handout, Find Someone Who Can Say Yes handout (pdf), for each participant; pens or pencils

Time: 15 to 20 minutes

Planning Notes:

  • The purpose of this activity is to set a positive tone and begin to build group spirit.  Keep it light, use humor, and have fun.

Procedure:

  1. Tell participants the purpose of this activity.
  2. Explain how the activity will work:
    • I will give you a list of questions.
    • When I ask you, please get up, move around the room, and introduce yourself to others.  Try to find someone who can answer yes to a question on the list.
    • If someone answers yes, get her/his signature beside the question.  If she/he answers no, ask another question.
    • Move on to someone else, introduce yourself, and ask another question.
    • Collect as many signatures as you can in the next 10 minutes.
  3. Be sure that everyone understands the instructions, then ask the group to begin.  You may want to participate in this activity.
  4. After about 10 minutes, call Time.  Ask the participants to take their seats.  Conclude the activity using the discussion points below.

Discussion Points:

  1. How do you feel now about being in this group?
  2. Did anyone find a person who has had some similar experiences?
  3. Did you find it hard to ask any of the questions?  If yes, which one and why do you think it was hard to ask that question?
  4. Was it easier to approach youth of the same or opposite sex?  Why?
