Emergency Contraception: What Educators Can Do

Young people need medically accurate sex education—education that includes information on both abstinence and contraception, including emergency contraception.

Studies show that, once informed about emergency contraception, approximately three-quarters of young women report that they would be likely to take the pills if they needed them. Educate youth about emergency contraception. Other ways you can let young people know that you respect and value them include:

  1. Commit to learning about emergency contraception.
  2. Include accurate information on emergency contraception in sex education curricula. Click here to view a lesson plan.
  3. Provide students with information about the emergency contraception hotline and Web site.
  4. Write about emergency contraception for high school, college, and local newspapers.
