Restore Access to Affordable Birth Control and Emergency Contraception Print

Advocates for Youth supports access to affordable birth control pills for all women.  Because of a Congressional error, the cost of birth control pills have skyrocketed from a low $5 to $10 per month to a prohibitively expensive $40 or $50 a month. This is a heavy burden for students and low-income women. Congress must correct its mistake and ensure that all women have access to affordable birth control. This problem can be easily fixed administratively, at no cost to taxpayers.  To reduce unintended and unwanted pregnancy, America’s young women need confidential and affordable access to family planning services.

UPDATE:

In March 2009, a no cost provision to make birth control affordable was added to the fiscal year 2009 omnibus appropriations bill. The appropriations bill passed through the Senate, and awaits President Obama's signature.
